Cramming a howling 500-hp motorsport engine into an ultra-agile mid-engine chassis - while positioning the air intakes mere inches from the driver’s head - is an act of pure engineering genius.
Make no mistake, the GT4 RS is the absolute worst candidate for daily city driving. A single hot lap without a helmet instantly reveals its core identity: this is a relentless, uncompromising track weapon.
The interior is defined by the massive carbon fiber air intakes that replace the rear quarter windows, feeding air right next to your ears. Revving the flat-six up to its 9,000 RPM redline triggers a violent, ear-splitting explosion of induction howl and exhaust scream. The cabin noise reaches such punishing levels that talking to a passenger is virtually impossible without a proper intercom system. However, at ATOMIC-SHOP, we know that when chasing the absolute edge on track, even a factory "RS" badge has room for improvement. To cure the high-speed float on this Blue GT4 RS, we focused on the core essentials: maximum mechanical grip and pure, direct feedback. We ditched the OEM electronic suspension management, completely replacing it with hardcore, track-proven motorsport hardware.
Suspension: The OHLINS MR10 Standard
The OEM PASM adaptive suspension is designed as a hybrid solution for both road and track, which introduces unavoidable compromises during aggressive circuit driving. To sharpen chassis dynamics and definitively cure high-speed aerodynamic lift on brutal straights, we upgraded the car with the motorsport-grade OHLINS POF MR10 TTX damper kit.
This setup introduces professional-tier twin-tube (TTX) technology, swapping electronic interpolation for uncompromised mechanical consistency. Utilizing an inverted strut design and custom motorsport valving, the OHLINS TTX system eliminates any delay in damping response. It guarantees immediate reaction times and the structural rigidity required for sustained track-day punishment.
The Geometry of Speed: MANTHEY RACING Kit
Fortunately, any factory suspension shortcomings can be completely neutralized with track-validated components. In this project, we integrated the heavy-duty mechanical kinematics hardware from the MANTHEY RACING package (specifically the Stock Suspension refinement / Setup Upgrade). Upgrading these parts is an absolute necessity to unlock 100% of the ÖHLINS dampers' hydraulic bandwidth. The factory suspension arms simply cannot withstand the violent lateral G-forces generated by this enhanced platform.
This comprehensive, track-focused overhaul from MANTHEY RACING is completed in two critical steps, ensuring the car grips the asphalt aggressively and translates steering inputs with absolute immediacy:
1. Alignment Hardware: Pure Motorsport Kinematics
The stock CAYMAN GT4 RS geometry simply doesn't have the physical range to support the aggressive camber and toe angles demanded by high-rate 140 N/mm springs and inverted TTX dampers. To eliminate the elasticity found in the OEM suspension, we installed race-grade mechanical components:
- MANTHEY RACING Front Top Mounts: Track-spec adjustable upper plates that replace compliant factory rubber with rigid spherical bearings (Uniball). They completely eradicate upper strut tower deflection under extreme cornering forces, ensuring the front geometry remains rock-solid during sharp turn-ins.
- MANTHEY RACING Adjustable Rear Tie/Toe Rods: Genuine motorsport links that swap out soft factory rubber for heavy-duty spherical joints. These completely destroy any trace of parasitic rear toe deflection during high-G lateral cornering.
- Camber Shims Kit: A precision-engineered set of CNC-machined spacers (in 3mm, 7mm, and 10mm thicknesses). Designed to fit directly into Porsche’s split lower control arms, they mechanically widen the front track and allow for an aggressive, track-ready camber setup ranging from -3.0° to -3.5°.
