The BMW M2 G87 stands out as one of the most dynamic drivers' cars in the modern M lineup. With its compact wheelbase, rear-wheel-drive configuration, and the powerful S58 twin-turbo inline-six shared with the M3 and M4, it offers an incredible factory foundation for high-performance driving.
However, factory production requires balancing pure performance against noise restrictions, emissions compliance, and daily comfort. For drivers seeking sharper throttle response, an aggressive stance, and an uninhibited exhaust note, ATOMIC-SHOP engineered a targeted street-and-track upgrade package.
Rather than converting this G87 into a harsh, stripped-out race car, our objective was surgical refinement. We enhanced its core character through an AKRAPOVIČ titanium exhaust, KW height-adjustable springs, EIBACH wheel spacers, a Stage 1 ECU calibration, high-shear RED LINE oil, and a genuine BMW OEM carbon rear spoiler.
Project Scope: Amplifying Performance Without Compromise
While the standard G87 M2 delivers plenty of muscle, it leaves significant room for optimization. The factory exhaust note is heavily muffled, the stock ride height sits high over the wheels, and the S58 engine's immense tuning potential remains untapped.
ATOMIC-SHOP approached this build with four clear targets: elevating the acoustic signature, perfecting wheel fitment, sharpening engine calibration, and ensuring thermal protection for sustained high-load driving. Every modification works in harmony to keep the car exceptionally fast, refined, and daily-usable.
AKRAPOVIČ Exhaust System: Unlocking the S58's Acoustic Potential
The twin-turbo S58 engine possesses massive mechanical potential, but European emissions hardware and restrictive stock mufflers subdue its true voice. To give this inline-six the aggressive sound it deserves, we installed the full titanium AKRAPOVIČ Slip-On Line Titanium system, paired with the AKRAPOVIČ Evolution Link Pipe Set and signature Carbon Hexagonal Tail Pipe Set.
Crafted entirely from ultralight titanium, the AKRAPOVIČ setup drastically reduces unsprung mass behind the rear axle while optimizing exhaust gas flow. The resulting acoustic note is deeper, crisper, and distinctly motorsport-inspired without droning in the cabin. The handcrafted carbon fiber tailpipes integrate seamlessly into the rear apron, providing a striking visual upgrade.
KW HAS and Eibach Spacers: Aggressive Stance & Active Chassis Tuning
The stock G87 M2 features wide, muscular fenders, yet the factory ride height leaves an uninspired gap above the tires. To achieve a lower center of gravity while preserving the factory adaptive damper functionality, ATOMIC-SHOP chose the KW Height Adjustable Springs (HAS) Kit.
This setup provides customized ride-height lowering within TUV-tested parameters, tightening body control during aggressive cornering without sacrificing street ride quality.
To complete the dynamic visual stance and widen the track, we added EIBACH Pro-Spacers: 12 mm upfront and 15 mm at the rear. Pushing the wheels flush with the outer bodywork dramatically improves the car's visual footprint and increases lateral stability during hard cornering.
In tandem, the KW HAS system and EIBACH spacers give the G87 a grounded, purposeful aesthetic while keeping factory electronically controlled suspension modes fully operational.
BOOTMOD3 Stage 1 Software Calibration and High-Load Thermal Protection
BMW’s S58 powerplant possesses vast reserves of untapped power. We performed a BOOTMOD3 Stage 1 software calibration to optimize boost parameters, ignition timing, and throttle mapping specifically for fast-road and track-day environments.
The Stage 1 tune dramatically improves mid-range torque and high-RPM power delivery, giving the S58 instant throttle response and relentless acceleration out of apexes.
Because increased boost levels elevate internal engine temperatures, maintenance protocols were upgraded accordingly. We replaced the factory oil with RED LINE Professional Series EURO 5W40 Motor Oil. Formulated with high shear stability and exceptional thermal resistance, this oil protects critical engine components under severe thermal stress and extended high-RPM sessions.
BMW OEM Carbon Rear Spoiler: Factory Aesthetics and Functional Balance
To round out the exterior upgrades, we fitted a genuine BMW OEM Carbon Fiber Rear Spoiler. The spoiler provides subtle high-speed downforce and creates visual harmony with the AKRAPOVIČ carbon tailpipes.
Rather than overwhelming the sleek lines of the G87 with an aggressive aftermarket wing, this genuine OEM piece offers a refined, factory-quality finish that emphasizes the car’s athletic proportions.
